I’m drinking coconut water, I’m warm and sweaty, I’m smiling, I’m swaying to the music, hands up in the air. I turn around and look at my bestie. Her eyes are closed, huge smile plastered on her face, hips in perpetual motion. She is rocking out!
We’re at Coachella, having the time of our lives. Being here is what we look forward to every year. The crazy cool musical lineup, the amazing electricity you feel as you interact with people, all of whom are sharing the same experience as you. Connecting with fellow human beings in a way that is so unlike day-to-day living back home. Every year you swear you’re going to recreate this beautiful energy everywhere you go. But hell, listening to your playlist as you drive around Los Angeles doesn’t come close to the kickass jolt you get from being in front of live performers. Or grooving on that endless parade of people in badass outfits, enhanced, for the most part, by gorgeous body art—henna tattoos, jagua tattoos, white henna tattoos, silver glitter tattoos, gold henna, silver henna, the list goes on!
In fact, when my BFF opens her eyes, looks over at me, and flashes me a peace sign, I laugh because she has henna tattooed a peace sign on her palm, and her fingertips are all henna-painted with hearts. She’s in love with Coachella! I choose to go with a fabulous jagua tattoo snaking up my arm—and I mean snaking! My design is a long, sexy snake, whose tail starts on the back of my hand, swirls around my arm, and rests its head on my shoulder. Love it! On my other arm are a bunch of white henna flowers, sprinkled with silver glitter hearts. Everybody’s commenting on my beautiful body adornment. I’m stoked!
And then my alarm goes off. Damn, I’m not at Coachella. I have to take my car to the shop, and then I need to go food shopping. Oh well. But I’m happy all the same because I just realized that I haven’t missed it. Coachella’s coming right up on April 14, and that gives me enough time to get my act together—gather my Royaltats hair ornaments, my favorite jeans, skirts, and butterfly arm tops, and my temporary tattoo kits, so I can start practicing the designs I’m going to rock at Coachella!
